Studying in the Department of Information and Electronic Engineering

My experience studying in the department have been very positive. The most enjoyable courses I have studied have to be the Structured Programming and DC Circuits from the first semester. From the second semester Digital Cicruit Design and AC Circuit Analysis and from the third semester Web Languages and Technologies and Signal Processing. I have to commend the vast majority of our professors for being extremely professional and very effective in teaching their corresponding subjects. I also deeply respect the staff responsible for the maintenance of our facilities, with their quality and cleanliness being above and beyond in comparison to other educational institutions visited. Our labs are strictly supervised so no damage comes to the equipment which, even though is not the most modern or high-tech, is meticulously kept in perfect working condition thanks to the tireless efforts of our lab professors. As a result it is always a joy to take part in all lab classes, even though the burden and the responsibilities are a lot bigger than the rest of the classes.

However there exist some issues that should have been resolved years ago. One of the biggest difficulties students faced daily before the Covid-19 pandemic was access to the university campus. The only way for someone to access the campus without a personal vehicle is by bus. The problem is that the only busses that can take you to the I.H.U. in Sindos have their starting station in the OSE train station, in the south-western part of Thessaloniki. That forces most students to take one or even two extra busses in order to get there, increasing the time wasted on transit each day to 2 and a half hours, or sometimes even more. On top of that, 52, which is the most direct and fastest bus line for accessing the campus is plagued by a severe lack of vehicles. As a result, each morning commute has students packed like sardines inside the bus, with the number of passengers exceeding the allowed limit. If this problem were to be resolved I believe it would help reduce the number of students skipping classes or dropping out and abandoning their studies, since it would make each day much more bearable and the learning process more enjoyable.
